Poland’s ruling party calls for secret parliamentary session to demand explanations from Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty regarding alleged Russian connections.
Błaszczak and Morawiecki on “Matters Requiring Explanation”
During Friday’s (February 6) press conference, Mariusz Błaszczak stated that PIS expects a secret session of the Sejm, where, as he said, all doubts regarding Włodzimierz Czarzasty should be clarified. The politician referred to a “Gazeta Polska” publication, which described the alleged Russian connections of the Marshal of the Sejm.
Błaszczak asked why Czarzasty did not submit a security questionnaire when he was a Deputy Marshal of the Sejm, including regarding access to classified information. “Avoidance does not solve the problem. Rather, avoidance indicates there is a problem. There is a fundamental issue regarding whether the second person in the state can remain in relations with a Russian citizen active in Putin’s circles,” the politician added.
“Don’t Let Yourselves Be Intimidated”
Former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki also participated in the conference. He appealed to the special services to remain independent from current politics and to perform their duties responsibly. In his view, state security cannot be subject to political pressure.
He also called for changes in the law, stating that the Marshal should submit the appropriate documents. “If Mr. Czarzasty had to fill out a security questionnaire, he would have to list his contacts with Ms. Svetlana Czestnych, and as a result, he probably would not have become Marshal of the Sejm,” stated the former prime minister.
Two and a Half Months of Czarzasty
Przemysław Czarnek reminded that Włodzimierz Czarzasty has been Marshal of the Sejm for only a short time. The former education minister emphasized that the Marshal is the second person in the state.
“These two months were enough for him to compromise himself, but also to compromise, and constantly so, Poland on the international stage,” said the former minister. According to Czarnek, Czarzasty represents “European left, currently ruling in Brussels,” which he described as habitually pro-Russian and anti-American.
Antoni Macierewicz also spoke, recognizing the alliance with the United States as the foundation of Poland’s actions and security. “This attack on the United States is a scandalous thing and is a threat to Poland,” stated the PiS politician.
Connections of the Sejm Marshal
“Gazeta Polska” described the alleged connections of Marshal Czarzasty, pointing to business contacts with a Russian citizen associated with the Russian banking sector. According to the publication, the Russian woman was said to own shares in a hotel company where the wife of the Sejm Marshal serves as vice president, and Czarzasty himself had previously sat on the board of one of the entities.
