Poland’s ruling Law and Justice party is outraged after allegations of a dubious sale of 160‑hectare land in Zabłotów—key to the Central Communication Port’s high‑speed railway—were uncovered during the brief Morawiecki administration.
Law and Justice Forms Internal Commission
Law and Justice (PiS) established an internal commission to investigate the sale of a 160‑hectare parcel in Zabłotów, through which the high‑speed railway line for the Central Communication Port (CPK) will run. The transaction occurred during the third Morawiecki government on November–December 2023.
Critics Claim Commission’s Work Is Insufficient
Local PiS activists say the commission’s actions will not suffice. One remarked that “often other scandals hide them, or people forget,” but that this time “people will not quickly let go of what was done on the CPK land.” Another voice noted that if the findings reported by Wirtualna Polska are true, “they should act politically.” He admitted parties might have tried to play the situation but the damage to PiS’s image is “nightmare.”
Conspiracy of Silence Alleged by Party Members
Interviewees on the portal said a “conspiracy of silence” prevails among PiS activists, compared to a “quietness over the coffin.” An anonymous Kaczyński‑aligned member claimed that no one brings up the topic because the majority feel ashamed, noting it is shameful how such an act could occur just before a handover of power. Party officials reportedly instructed PiS members to answer all questions as if it were a politically staged scandal to secure position, an act of revenge against Tusk, or a question of PiS guilt.
Scheduled Meeting on 5 November to Discuss Land Sale
On Wednesday, November 5, a meeting of the National Agricultural Support Center (KOWR) board with Deputy Chairman Piotr Wielgoma was scheduled to discuss the CPK land. Representatives of the General Prosecutor’s Office and the CPK company were also invited. KOWR had requested the return of the 160‑hectare plot in Zabłotów. In August, KOWR first approached the seller for resale but was refused. On December 1, 2023, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development approved the sale of the land for 23 million PLN; its rezoned value could reach roughly 400 million PLN. The Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into alleged overreach by KOWR officials.
