Following President Nawrocki’s veto of the SAFE Act implementation law, PiS lawmakers initiated an inquiry into Prime Minister Tusk’s reported conversations with European leaders.
PiS Lawmakers Launch Investigation
After Karol Nawrocki vetoed the law implementing the EU’s SAFE project, Donald Tusk stated during an emergency government meeting that “history will judge the president.” He also mentioned receiving SMS messages and phone calls from European leaders who were unaware of the situation.
On Thursday (March 19th), PiS MPs Bartosz Kownacki and Marcin Porzucek conducted a parliamentary oversight check at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister regarding this matter. Kownacki stated that Tusk had shown no interest in collaborating with the opposition for weeks.
German Connection Under Scrutiny
PiS representatives emphasize the significance of a potential “German angle” within the SAFE Act context. They intend to verify if official phone calls occurred, and if so, whether records were kept detailing the content of those conversations.
Kownacki questioned whether the calls were from figures like Annalena Baerbock, expressing concern over potential financial implications for Germany and France.
Sarcastic Inquiry and Funding Concerns
PiS MP Porzucek voiced concerns that the SAFE Act’s interest payments could exceed the principal, necessitating a review of the directives Tusk received from European capitals. He noted that the German aspect appears to lack transparency.
Following the oversight check, PiS lawmakers proceeded to the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.
“Polish SAFE Zero Percent” Blocked
Przemysław Czarnek suggested Tusk was succumbing to pressure, particularly from Germany, questioning who was contacting him – Friedrich or Ursula. He argued that Polish citizens should be the ones reaching out to Tusk.
The Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty rejected the PiS-proposed “Polish SAFE zero percent” initiative, citing the President’s failure to identify adequate funding sources.
