PiS Senator Criticizes Party’s Shift to Nationalism

Senator Jacek Włosowicz of Poland’s Law and Justice (PiS) party stated he did not join a nationalist party, expressing concern over its direction.

Senator Włosowicz Voices Discontent

Senator Jacek Włosowicz of the Law and Justice (PiS) party was interviewed on TVN24 on Tuesday, March 17th. He was asked about the direction of his party, particularly in relation to competition with the Polish Confederation for more right-wing voters.

Włosowicz stated that PiS was intended to be a conservative grouping, and expressed his dissatisfaction with its current trajectory, saying, “I did not join such a party.”

Party’s Evolution Since 2002

The politician reflected on the beginnings of his involvement with PiS, to which he joined in 2002. He emphasized that the party was originally envisioned as “a conservative party, well-organized, focused on people, and on a program for the country.”

While acknowledging that “certain aberrations” occur in every party – from both the left and the right – Włosowicz believes that a more radical faction has come to dominate PiS in recent years.

Feeling of Alienation Within PiS

Włosowicz admitted that he and other more moderate members of the party “did not join such a party.” He stated the party “is becoming a nationalist party,” with which he disassociates himself.

When asked about a potential departure from PiS, the Senator replied that the conservative current remains key for him. He also noted that “there are many people who, in my opinion, have been orphaned programmatically within PiS.”
