PiS Suspends Senator, Accuses Him of Aligning with Tusk

The PiS (Law and Justice) party suspended Senator Jacek Włosowicz on March 17, citing his public statements and perceived alignment with Donald Tusk.

Senator Włosowicz’s Criticism of PiS

During a TVN24 interview on Tuesday, March 17th, Senator Jacek Włosowicz discussed the direction of the Law and Justice party, particularly in relation to the Konfederacja Korony Polskiej and Grzegorz Braun’s far-right electorate.

Włosowicz stated that when he joined PiS in 2002, it was intended to be a conservative party focused on citizens and a national program. He acknowledged internal divisions but argued that a right-wing faction had become dominant in recent years.

Disagreement on Party Direction and SAFE Program

The Senator assessed that more centrist and left-leaning members of PiS recognize a conflict between the party’s current state and its original ideals, stating he did not join the current iteration of the party. He described the party as becoming nationalist, distancing himself from that direction.

Włosowicz also expressed support for the SAFE program, which is criticized by PiS, arguing it is necessary for Poland.

Suspension and Accusations from PiS Officials

Jacek Włosowicz’s statements were poorly received within the party. Stanisław Karczewski stated that Włosowicz had “mentally left” the PiS club and was merely pretending to be a Senator for the party.

Official Announcement of Suspension

Rafał Bochenek announced the decision to suspend Senator Włosowicz and initiate proceedings for his removal from the PiS club. Bochenek also noted that Włosowicz had not been a member of the party since 2011.

Bochenek’s Criticism of Włosowicz’s Priorities

Bochenek criticized Włosowicz, stating his statements demonstrate a long-standing alignment with Donald Tusk. He further argued that the Senator is not focused on pressing issues such as rising prices, unemployment, and EU policies like ETS2 and the Mercosur agreement.
