Polish Law and Justice Party (PiS) is planning a second Christmas dinner, inviting former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki to rival the traditional event hosted by chairman Jarosław Kaczyński.
Competitive Christmas Dinner
Onet reported that PiS politicians received an invitation from Mateusz Morawiecki for a Christmas meeting scheduled for Tuesday at 8 p.m., following the party’s customary celebration led by Kaczyński. Commentators say Morawiecki’s event is a “competition for the chair” and is seen as a confrontational gesture toward the president. Someone close to Morawiecki argues the dinner should be viewed more as a group gathering than a partisan event.
Nowogrodzka Meeting Lacks Morawiecki
On Friday, the PiS leadership met at the party headquarters on Nowogrodzka Street. After the session, spokesperson Rafał Bochenek said that internal matters were discussed, often misrepresented in the media. He noted that because not all members of the Political Committee attended, further discussion would continue in the next plenary. Kaczyński intends to convene the next meeting swiftly to finalize the debate.
Internal Tensions in PiS
Mateusz Morawiecki was absent from the Friday meeting, reportedly staying in Brzozów with Beata Szydło and Daniel Obajtek. Kaczyński had called for his presence, but Morawiecki ignored the request, indicating growing friction. Public exchanges between Sasin and Morawiecki have intensified, with Sasin claiming Morawiecki will no longer be the PiS candidate for prime minister, while Morawiecki mocked Sasin on X.
