It was announced on Friday that former PiS vice‑minister Paweł M. has been detained in Katowice on accusations of leveraging political influence to secure corporate contracts and personal benefits.
Arrest of Former Vice‑Minister
In a move ordered by the sub‑regional office of the State Prosecutor’s Office in Katowice, the former PiS vice‑minister Paweł M. was detained amid allegations of irregularities within the Government Agency for Strategic Reserves.
Alleged Influence and Procurement Scheme
According to Petryk Dobrzyński, Paweł M. allegedly invoked influence within the Prime Minister’s Office and in national units managing public funds to facilitate procurement deals for a selected entrepreneur.
In return, the suspect is accused of demanding that the entrepreneur employ his wife and providing the entrepreneur with an employee‑ship that granted free use of a company vehicle, costs of which were covered by the entrepreneur.
Charges of Paid Protection and Benefits
The former vice‑minister is charged with paid protection, accepting financial and personal advantages, and was expected to gain at least 60,000 PLN in monetary benefit.
Legal Restrictions Imposed
Preliminary measures include a 100,000 PLN monetary surety, police supervision, travel prohibition combined with passport confiscation and a ban on communication with specified persons.
Scope of the Investigation
The multi‑threaded investigation has so far charged 16 persons with 36 offences, including the former head of the Government Agency for Strategic Reserves Michał K. and three other officials.
