A PKP employee praised Russia after a deadly attack on a Ukrainian train, prompting the railway company to launch an internal investigation.
Employee’s Controversial Post
A PKP employee allegedly posted “Chwała Rosji” (Glory to Russia) on social media following a Russian attack on a Ukrainian passenger train that killed five people. According to reports from the Ośrodek Monitorowania Zachowań Rasistowskich i Ksenofobicznych (Center for Monitoring Racist and Xenophobic Behaviors), the employee “is employed by Polish Railway Lines and is happy when Russia manages to destroy a passenger train on the route or blow up tracks.”
Company’s Response
PKP issued a statement in response, saying: “We do not accept” such behavior. The company has launched internal procedures to investigate the employee’s actions. “Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. do not accept content and behaviors contrary to existing law, ethical principles and the public interest,” PKP stated in a social media post.
“At the same time, we want to emphasize that the safety of railway infrastructure and passengers is an absolute priority for us. Any signals that could undermine it are treated with due seriousness,” the company added.
Railway Sabotage in Poland
In mid-November of last year, two acts of sabotage occurred in Poland. One involved damage to railway tracks in Mika on the Warsaw Wschodnia-Dorohusk route, and the other involved damage to the overhead line network in Gołąb, also on the same route. According to investigators, the perpetrators acted on behalf of Russian services. After preparing the sabotage, the saboteurs fled to Belarus.
