From July 13, 2026, ZUS will transition to a new pensioner ID design to enhance document security. These cards are now classified as third-category public documents, requiring advanced protection features such as guilloche patterns, microprinting, and individual serial numbers. They will be manufactured from durable PVC.<\/p>\n
The redesign comes with increased production costs, rising from approximately 1.05 PLN to 2.24 PLN per card. Over the next decade, total expenditure for these new documents is estimated at 4.6 million PLN.<\/p>\n
Current pensioners and disability benefit recipients do not need to exchange their existing valid ID cards. The new regulations do not impose any requirement to submit applications or visit ZUS offices if an individual already possesses a valid document.<\/p>\n
New cards will only be issued to first-time applicants or those requesting a replacement due to loss or destruction. If a pensioner wishes to obtain the new version voluntarily, they may submit an ERL form to their local ZUS branch, via mail, through a proxy, or at a Polish consulate.<\/p>\n
The design update also applies to the digital pensioner ID available in the mObywatel application. Existing users do not need to file additional paperwork to access this feature, provided their identity in the app is confirmed.<\/p>\n
The mObywatel version functions with the same legal authority as the physical card. However, the use of the digital application remains entirely voluntary; seniors are not compelled to abandon traditional plastic documentation.<\/p>\n
The updated ID card serves the same purpose as the previous version, confirming the holder\u2019s status to access statutory discounts, public transport concessions, and institutional benefits.
