The benefit is not distributed by the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS), and its award requires verification of long-term rescue activity. The number of people currently receiving this supplement has exceeded 118,000.<\/p>\n
Not every pensioner is entitled to this addition. The rescue benefit is intended for former volunteer firefighters and mountain rescuers from GOPR and TOPR who participated in rescue operations for many years. Conditions are defined by the Act on the Rescue Benefit; beyond reaching retirement age, applicants must demonstrate sufficient duration of active participation in rescue actions.<\/p>\n
Crucially, the service period does not need to be continuous. The total duration of rescue activity is what counts.<\/p>\n
The rescue benefit is not granted automatically, meaning those who qualify must apply for it themselves. The application is submitted to the relevant district or municipal commander of the State Fire Service. Applicants must attach proof of their participation in rescue operations.<\/p>\n
If full documentation has not been preserved, regulations allow for the verification of activity through witnesses. Signatures from at least three individuals are required, provided that at least one of them held a public function or worked in local government administration during the time the applicant was participating in rescue operations.<\/p>\n
The benefit is paid by the Retirement and Pension Office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration, rather than the Social Insurance Institution. Transfers are processed by the 15th day of each month, meaning the July payment should reach eligible recipients no later than July 15.<\/p>\n
The rescue benefit is subject to annual indexation, with its value increasing according to the pension and annuity indexation rate. When the benefit was first introduced, it amounted to 200 PLN per month; today, it is 288 PLN. Individuals already receiving the supplement do not need to file new applications to receive the higher amount following subsequent indexations.<\/p>\n
Data from the Retirement and Pension Office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration indicates that approximately 118,000 people currently receive the benefit. The vast majority are volunteer firefighters, with the remainder being GOPR and TOPR rescuers.<\/p>\n
Discussions regarding legislative changes are ongoing. A proposal has been submitted to the parliamentary Committee on Petitions to allow the benefit to also be received by individuals who have concluded their rescue activity and are drawing a pension, even if they have not yet reached the universal retirement age.
