Following a court decision to deny an European Arrest Warrant for former Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro, the Prosecutor’s Office is weighing its next steps after citing significant risks of evasion.<\/p>\n
Prosecutor General spokesperson Anna Adamiak stated that Zbigniew Ziobro left for the USA on May 9. She noted that without an European Arrest Warrant, there were no legal grounds to initiate international search procedures or prevent the suspect from leaving the Schengen Area.<\/p>\n
Adamiak emphasized that the District Court in Warsaw rejected the application because Ziobro is no longer residing within the European Union. Despite multiple requests from the National Prosecutor’s Office to finalize the hearing, the court refused to act.<\/p>\n
Although the court’s decision is not subject to appeal, the Prosecutor’s Office may file a new application once they review the written justification. Prosecutors maintain that an arrest warrant is essential should Ziobro return to the EU, noting that his stated residence remains in Belgium.<\/p>\n
