One day prior, on Tuesday, July 14, Polish jets intercepted a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft over international waters, approximately 30 kilometers from Ustka. Upon establishing contact and signaling the plane, the Russian machine retreated toward Russia.<\/p>\n
Kosiniak-Kamysz noted that this marked the first attempt in a long time for a Russian aircraft to approach the maritime border for intelligence purposes. He emphasized that Russia continues to engage in hybrid warfare and hostile reconnaissance against NATO member states.<\/p>\n
This incident follows at least a dozen similar interceptions of Russian aircraft over the Baltic Sea throughout 2026. A previous interception of a Russian reconnaissance plane by Polish fighters occurred in May.<\/p>\n
