Hungary has seen historic participation in today’s parliamentary elections, with the National Election Office (NVI) reporting a 74.23% turnout by 5:00 PM, significantly surpassing the total turnout recorded in 2022.<\/p>\n
According to the latest data from the National Election Office (NVI), 5,587,935 people had cast their votes by 5:00 PM. For comparison, the final turnout in the 2022 elections was 69.59%, while the turnout at the same hour in 2022 was 62.92%.<\/p>\n
Budapest has reported particularly high engagement, with 77.18% of eligible voters already casting their ballots. The total number of registered voters for this election stands at 7,527,742.<\/p>\n
This year has also seen a record number of citizens registering to vote at foreign diplomatic missions, exceeding 90,000. Additionally, the number of mail-in ballots has reached an all-time high of nearly 224,000.<\/p>\n
Hungarians are electing 199 deputies to the National Assembly (Orszaggyules). Of these, 106 are chosen in single-member constituencies, while the remaining 93 are elected from national lists. Candidates in single-member districts win by securing the most votes, regardless of an overall majority.<\/p>\n
Domestic voters are entitled to two votes: one for a district candidate and another for a party or minority list. Voters residing abroad cast a single vote exclusively for a national list. Prime Minister Viktor Orban, opposition leader Peter Magyar, and President Tamas Sulyok have already cast their ballots.<\/p>\n
Ballot counting will commence immediately after polling stations close at 7:00 PM. Partial results are expected around 8:00 PM. By 3:00 PM, turnout had already reached 66.01% (4,968,713 voters), a figure that exceeds the final turnout percentages of the 1990, 2010, and 2014 elections.<\/p>\n
