The Supreme Court has dismissed the cassation appeal filed by the defense of Jakub A. The man was convicted for the 2019 murder of 10-year-old Kristina from Mrowiny, making his sentence of life imprisonment final.<\/p>\n
The defense appeal arguments focused primarily on the perpetrator’s sanity at the time of the crime. Courts of both instances previously ruled that Jakub A. was fully sane when he committed the offense.<\/p>\n
Supreme Court Judge Micha\u0142 Laskowski explained in the justification that the perpetrator’s actions were exceptionally precise, premeditated, and rational, albeit heinous. Experts and the court were obliged to factor this meticulous preparation into their evaluations.<\/p>\n
The high-profile crime took place on June 13, 2019. Ten-year-old Kristina left her school in the center of Mrowiny in Lower Silesia around 1:00 PM, heading toward her home a kilometer away, and was last seen 200 meters from her house.<\/p>\n
Her body was discovered later that day in a forest six kilometers from Mrowiny. The prosecutor’s office reported that the cause of death was numerous stab wounds to the chest and neck, with the indictment listing 30 such injuries. Jakub A. was apprehended four days later on June 16, 2019.<\/p>\n
In October 2022, the Regional Court in \u015awidnica sentenced Jakub A. to life imprisonment for the murder and prior solicitation of the crime, ruling he could seek parole after 30 years. This verdict was largely upheld in February 2024 by the Court of Appeal in Wroc\u0142aw, which ordered the sentence to be served in a therapeutic system and increased the compensation amount.<\/p>\n
Out of respect for the family’s privacy, prosecutors withheld details regarding the motives, noting only that the victim knew the perpetrator.
