Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that Major General Ihor Skybiuk will become the new Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine following leadership restructuring. <\/p>\n
Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Telegram that the sequence of further actions has been determined and decrees formalizing changes in the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be formalized today. Together with Mykhailo Drapaty and Yevhen Chmara, it was agreed that Major General Ihor Skybiuk, a very experienced military figure who fought side by side with the new commander-in-chief, will become the new Chief of the General Staff.<\/p>\n
Zelenskyy emphasized that it is important for all elements of the army to continue operating in full coordination, adding that they also discussed how former commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrskyi and former chief of the general staff Andriy Hnatow will serve the defense of the state in the future.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, the Ukrainian president announced that Mykhailo Drapaty, the previous commander of the Joint Forces Group, will become the new commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces. The decision followed six days of protests sparked by the unexpected dismissal of Mykhailo Fedorov from the position of Minister of Defense, with protesters demanding his reinstatement and changes in army leadership.<\/p>\n
Drapaty wrote on Facebook that serving Ukraine has always been an honor and represents absolute responsibility during a time of war for independence, adding that he will work responsibly, with full commitment and respect for the defenders of the state.<\/p>\n
A conflict existed between Fedorov and Syrskyi regarding the method of waging war. The former minister explained during a press briefing that while Syrskyi’s contributions cannot be underestimated, the war has changed due to drones and altered command systems, making previous operational methods obsolete.<\/p>\n
According to Ukrainska Pravda, Fedorov received a proposal from the president to remain in state administration in a technology development role, but argued that his strategy to stop Russia requires the powers held only by the Ministry of Defense.
