The Supreme Court dismissed the defense’s appeal for 22-year-old Jakub A., finalizing his life sentence for the 2019 murder of 10-year-old Kristina in Mrowiny, Poland. <\/p>\n
The high-profile crime took place on June 13, 2019. On that day, 10-year-old Kristina left her school in the center of the village of Mrowiny, located in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, at around 1:00 PM. She lived about a kilometer away from the school and was last seen 200 meters from her home. Her body was found the same day in a forest 6 kilometers away from Mrowiny.<\/p>\n
The prosecutor’s office announced that the cause of death for the 10-year-old was numerous stab wounds to the chest and neck. Twenty-two-year-old Jakub A. was arrested four days later. The man wanted to start a relationship with the victim’s mother, but believed that the girl was “in the way” and was unfriendly toward him.<\/p>\n
The verdict was handed down by the Regional Court in \u015awidnica on October 11, 2022, over three years after the girl’s death. The man was sentenced to life imprisonment.<\/p>\n
The Court of Appeal in Wroc\u0142aw upheld the main elements of the previous ruling in February 2024. However, it stated that Jakub A. did not act with “particular cruelty.” The second-instance court assessed that while the man “set out from the beginning to take the 10-year-old’s life,” he did so “without inflicting additional suffering.”<\/p>\n
The defense attorneys of Jakub A. filed a cassation appeal with the Supreme Court, which the Supreme Court dismissed on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
“Repeatedly in such cases, conclusions are drawn based on how the accused acts, how the perpetrator acts. In this case, we were dealing with an exceptionally precise, thought-out, rational action, which was obviously heinous and disgusting, but in its own way was rational and prepared in minute detail.
