Following high-profile military and government shake-ups in Ukraine, a recent Rating group poll reveals that former Defense Minister Fedorow outranks President Zelensky in public trust. <\/p>\n
Protests broke out on Thursday, July 16, in Kyiv, Lviv, and other Ukrainian cities following media reports that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would not nominate Fedorow for the position of defense minister in the new government. Later, Fedorow confirmed that he was stepping down from his post as defense minister. According to media outlets, the reason for the defense minister’s dismissal was a conflict between him and General Syrsky.<\/p>\n
In the ongoing week, the Ukrainian president made further personnel changes. Following a wave of protests, a change was made at the position of commander-in-chief. General Oleksandr Syrsky was replaced by Mykhailo Drapaty, the previous commander of the Joint Forces Operation. According to a Rating poll, 55 percent of people supported the dismissal of Gen. Syrsky, 15 percent opposed the decision, another 19 percent had no opinion, and 11 percent chose the option “hard to say.” Maj. Gen. Ihor Skybiuk became the new chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.<\/p>\n
Zelensky also reported on Tuesday, July 21, that he offered Fedorow a new position in the state administration related to the development of the state’s technological potential. However, according to the Ukrainska Prawda portal, the former Ukrainian defense minister refused the president’s offer because he still does not understand the reason for his previous dismissal. According to a Rating Group poll, 72 percent of respondents did not support Fedorow’s dismissal, 5 percent supported it, and 17 percent expressed indifference.<\/p>\n
Former Commander-in-Chief Valery Zaluzhny, currently Ukraine’s ambassador to Great Britain, enjoys the highest trust among Ukrainians, with 70 percent of respondents declaring trust in him. Right behind him is Fedorow with a trust level of 65 percent. Taking third place in terms of trust is Zelensky’s chief of staff, Kyrylo Budanow, at 62 percent. President Zelensky is only in fourth place, with 59 percent of those questioned expressing trust in him.<\/p>\n
The study also asked Ukrainians about their support in a presidential election. Let us recall that Zelensky’s term has been ongoing since 2019, and elections currently cannot take place due to martial law declared in connection with the Russian invasion that has been ongoing since February 2022.<\/p>\n
In the first round of potential elections, Zelensky would receive the most votes at 22.3 percent, while 14.9 percent would vote for Zaluzhny, and 13.4 percent of respondents would cast their ballots for Fedorow. The poll did not cover a hypothetical second round of elections.<\/p>\n
As part of the poll, 1,000 respondents randomly selected from mobile phone users were interviewed.
