On Saturday, July 25, Vladimir Putin participated in the 22nd Russia-Kazakhstan Interregional Forum held in Omsk, where he met with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. According to the Russian agency Interfax, Tokayev stated during the meeting that the war in Ukraine should be frozen and proposed returning to negotiations under the “Istanbul 2.0” formula, noting that initial talks in Turkey last year did not yield an agreement.<\/p>\n
President Tokayev also remarked that for many, the conflict in Ukraine is not clear and compared it to the dispute between Azerbaijan and Armenia. He added that an end must be put to it because everything works to the advantage of the opponents of the Russian Federation. He stated that he decided to express his modest opinion because people who knew about the meeting asked him to convey it, highlighting that while parties have different positions, there is an opportunity to suspend the conflict, which he believes benefits opponents of both Russia and Ukraine while emphasizing Kazakhstan’s continued cooperation with Moscow. Local Ukrainian authorities reported that five people were killed and 24 others were injured in Russian attacks targeting the Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia oblasts, involving two missiles and 157 combat drones.
