Berlin police have confirmed the information regarding the operation. In a statement, authorities announced that around 6 PM, they successfully located the suspect behind yesterday’s attack in Gro\u00dfer Tiergarten at an allotment garden site in Spandau.<\/p>\n
Police reported that during the arrest, the suspect approached officers with a bladed weapon, forcing officers to open fire. Despite the measures taken by the services, the man died at the scene.<\/p>\n
The attack took place late in the evening on Saturday, July 25. The perpetrator drove a van into a crowd of people in an alleyway in Berlin’s Tiergarten park, near where the Pride Parade was taking place. A woman was killed in the attack, and 29 people were injured. German police had been hunting for the suspect since Saturday.<\/p>\n
The head of the German Interior Ministry described the attack as an Islamist terrorist act. Speaking at a press conference near the crime scene on Sunday, German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated that everything indicates the attack in Berlin’s Tiergarten was an Islamist terrorist strike. The alleged perpetrator is 21-year-old Abdul B. The head of the German Interior Ministry noted that he was already known to the police and had committed offenses in the past, having become radicalized and belonging to Islamist circles. He explained that the 21-year-old was born in Germany in 2005 and has Lebanese roots.<\/p>\n
According to German media, the main suspect tried to join the Islamic State but failed. Media reports state that he traveled to Lebanon in 2025 and was detained by police upon his return to Berlin.
