The pensioner ID is a key document that confirms the right to retirement benefits and opens access to a number of reliefs and privileges. ZUS issues it after acquiring the right to a pension, i.e., upon reaching retirement age (60 for women, 65 for men) or meeting other statutory conditions.<\/p>\n
Thanks to the ID, pensioners and disability pensioners can enjoy a wide package of reliefs and lower fees. Discounts include health and medicines, transport and communication, the TV license, official matters, and everyday shopping and services.<\/p>\n
Persons applying for a pension or disability pension, after a positive review of the application, automatically receive an mLegitymacja, which is the electronic version in the mObywatel application. From January 2023, seniors can add the “pensioner ID” document in mObywatel after logging in, without an additional application.<\/p>\n
The paper version is issued exclusively upon request using the ERL form. The document can be collected at a ZUS branch or received by mail. The plastic card is no longer the primary channel, as mLegitymacja is now the main form of document used by almost 1.5 million beneficiaries for ZUS.<\/p>\n
From Monday, July 13, 2026, ZUS started issuing pensioner IDs according to a completely new design. The well-known white-and-green card is becoming a thing of the past, replaced by a gray-and-blue document featuring security elements used in official documents.<\/p>\n
The new version of the ID is designed to be more durable and contain better security features against counterfeiting thanks to lamination, among other things. The pensioner ID is a different document from the Senior Card, which can be obtained via the MANKO association.<\/p>\n
There is no need to replace the old document. If you hold a valid ID issued according to the previous design, you can calmly continue to use it. The change in regulations does not invalidate documents issued earlier, meaning ZUS is not withdrawing old cards from circulation.<\/p>\n
All IDs issued on previous blanks remain valid for the period indicated on them. For the coming years, old green and new gray-and-blue cards will function in parallel, and both will be honored equally.<\/p>\n
The new ID will go to three groups of people. The application for a plastic card via the ERL form is therefore submitted when you genuinely need a new document, and not every time the design changes. Obtaining the card is free of charge.<\/p>\n
