The head of government emphasized that they were prepared to shoot down the rocket if it had continued its flight.<\/p>\n
The Operational Command of the Branches of the Armed Forces (DORSZ) reported that at 3:40 AM on Thursday, an unidentified object was detected in Polish airspace; an F-16 fighter jet was dispatched to identify and intercept it. At 3:46 AM, the object disappeared from radar, and its probable impact site was located near the village of Tarnawa-Kolonia in the Lublin Voivodeship. Consequently, the prime minister, the head of the Ministry of National Defense, and the head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration headed to Lublin.<\/p>\n
The prime minister wrote on the X platform that in connection with the violation of Polish airspace during a massive Russian missile attack on western Ukraine, he convened a coordination team involving the minister of national defense and relevant services, which have been working at the scene for many hours and systematically providing him with information about all circumstances. The Chancellery of the Prime Minister stated that the minister of national defense would also participate in the meeting, while MSWiA spokeswoman Karolina Ga\u0142ecka noted that the minister of internal affairs and administration was also present.<\/p>\n
The head of the Ministry of National Defense wrote in the morning on X about an “extremely difficult night for our air defense, observation, and threat detection systems.” Kosiniak-Kamysz noted that efforts are currently underway to clarify what type of object fell in the vicinity of Tarnawa-Kolonia.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the head of the MSWiA stated that the SPO13 procedure was immediately implemented on Thursday morning and alarm sirens were activated as the fastest way to inform about the threat. Kierwi\u0144ski wrote on X that the alert lasted for about 13 minutes.<\/p>\n
Sirens wailed in the Lublin region while police and services secured the area. The Lublin Police reported on the X service that on Thursday morning they received a report about a loud roar heard in the Bi\u0142goraj County between Tarnawa Kolonia and Biskupice.<\/p>\n
Police stated that after 5:00 AM, officers discovered a crater and scattered elements of an unidentified object in a field about 2 km from buildings between Tarnawa Kolonia and Tokary. The press officer of the Lublin Provincial Commander of the State Fire Service, Capt. Tomasz Stachyra, reported that firefighters are securing a crater with a diameter of approximately 10 meters.<\/p>\n
The incident was reported to the services, including the Military Gendarmerie, the Internal Security Agency, the Military Counterintelligence Service, and the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin.<\/p>\n
The Operational Command stated that at 3:40 AM an unidentified object moving westward was detected in Polish airspace, and a duty F-16 fighter jet was directed to the area for identification and interception. At 3:46 AM, before a definitive identification could be made, the object disappeared from radar system indications. To verify and ultimately confirm the technical readings of the radar systems, an Mi-24 helicopter was dispatched to the area of the object’s last known position.<\/p>\n
The DORSZ stated that the helicopter crew located the probable impact site of the object in an undeveloped area near the village of Tarnawa-Kolonia in the Lublin Voivodeship. Operational and security actions are underway at the site, with a Ground Search and Rescue Team and appropriate services deployed.<\/p>\n
The Military Department of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin is conducting actions at the site as part of an investigation to the necessary extent. The district prosecutor in Lublin traveled to the scene to personally coordinate the investigative activities.<\/p>\n
The District Prosecutor’s Office stated that the area was checked by services for pyrotechnic and radiation hazards, confirming that the terrain is safe and that site inspections can proceed.
