The Municipal Transport Authority in Kielce sold five decommissioned Solaris buses to the Sikorkina Foundation for Ukraine after it remained the sole bidder in a municipal auction. <\/p>\n
According to the Municipal Transport Authority, 20 Solaris Urbino buses were put up for sale, comprising 17 twelve-meter vehicles and three ten-meter vehicles. The Sikorkina Foundation for Ukraine was the sole bidder and purchased five vehicles at starting prices, while the remaining buses went unsold. These vehicles are headed to Vinnytsia, Ukraine, which is a partner city of Kielce.<\/p>\n
The purchased vehicles were manufactured in 2009 and have a mileage of approximately 1 million kilometers, with a value of about 30,000 PLN each. The foundation announced via social media that the funds for the purchase came from a fundraiser titled “Buses for Vinnytsia. Politicians block, we keep going.” According to the organization, over 7,100 donors contributed a total of more than 622,800 PLN to this cause.<\/p>\n
This initiative followed an earlier dispute in the Kielce local government in June, where the city initially considered transferring 15 decommissioned Solaris buses to Vinnytsia. Following criticism from some council members and discussions on municipal asset management, the mayor of Vinnytsia, Sergiy Morgunov, withdrew the request to avoid deepening negative emotions surrounding the cooperation between the two cities.<\/p>\n
Kielce Mayor Agata Wojda criticized the opposition councilors, accusing them of spreading incomplete information and creating an atmosphere of fear by omitting the low market value of the 17-year-old vehicles. Meanwhile, Marcin St\u0119pniewski, head of the Law and Justice (PiS) club in the Kielce City Council, hailed the withdrawal of the request as a success for public pressure.<\/p>\n
The next stage involves purchasing new batteries and preparing the buses for transport to Ukraine. The foundation hopes to transport the vehicles by rail via the Government Strategic Reserves Agency and has announced plans to participate in another auction if available buses are priced to allow for the purchase of more vehicles.<\/p>\n
