Polish airspace was violated on Thursday morning, July 30, while Russia was conducting a massive attack on Ukraine. The military noted at the time that certain objects posed a threat based on their flight direction. One of them approached the Polish border to a distance of about 5 km at 3:29 AM, then changed direction and headed east.<\/p>\n
About 10 minutes later, the military detected another object flying west and dispatched an F-16, but the object vanished from radar system indications. The crew of an Mi-24 helicopter determined that it had crashed in an uninhabited area near the village of Tarnawa-Kolonia in the Lublin Voivodeship.<\/p>\n
Prime Minister Donald Tusk and the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin had previously reported that the object was most likely an armed Russian missile. This information has now been officially confirmed by Deputy Minister of National Defense Cezary Tomczyk.<\/p>\n
Tomczyk stated on TVN24 that he spoke with Operational Commander of the Armed Forces General Ireneusz Nowak and can fully confirm it was a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile, capable of carrying nuclear warheads, which exploded upon impact with the ground. The deputy minister acknowledged that it was potentially very dangerous.<\/p>\n
Tomczyk reported that the incident occurred during one of the largest missile attacks on Ukraine since the beginning of the war. The defense deputy minister stated on TVN24 that they normally track several hundred objects which are usually strike drones, and that Russians typically attack with 10 to 20 missiles, but in this case, there were about 70 missiles, of which 20 were heading toward Poland.<\/p>\n
The politician noted that the vast majority of the missiles were shot down by Ukraine over Ukraine. Tomczyk explained that the pilot tracking the final missile that could not be shot down turned back 20 seconds before the border because he could not enter Polish airspace, as it is forbidden, prompting a Polish F-16 to join the operation.<\/p>\n
Tomczyk stated that General Nowak was ready to issue an order to shoot down the missile, adding that had it been flying in a western direction, it would have been shot down within a dozen or so seconds by Polish fighters that targeted it roughly at the moment it landed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
