The military already noted at the time that certain objects could pose a threat due to their flight direction. One of them approached the Polish border at around 3:29 AM to a distance of about 5 km, after which it changed its flight direction and headed east.<\/p>\n
About 10 minutes later, the military detected another object flying west and dispatched an F-16 to it, but the object disappeared from radar system indications. The crew of an Mi-24 helicopter established that it had fallen in an uninhabited area near the village of Tarnawa-Kolonia in the Lublin Voivodeship.<\/p>\n

I spoke with the Operational Commander of the Armed Forces, General Ireneusz Nowak, and we can confirm with full responsibility that it was a Russian Kh-101 missile, namely a cruise missile capable of carrying even nuclear warheads, which exploded upon impact with the ground, Tomczyk said on TVN24. According to the Missile Threat portal, run by a Washington-based think tank, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), the Kh-101 carries a conventional warhead, while the Kh-102 has a 250 kt nuclear payload.<\/p>\n
Tomczyk reported that the incident occurred during one of the largest missile attacks on Ukraine since the beginning of the war. Normally we track several hundred objects, which are usually attack drones. Usually the Russians attack with 10-20 missiles. In this case we were talking about about 70 missiles, of which 20 were heading towards Poland, the deputy head of the defense ministry said on TVN24.<\/p>\n
The politician noted that the vast majority of missiles were shot down by Ukraine over Ukraine. The airman who tracked this last missile, which he failed to shoot down, turned back 20 seconds before the border, Tomczyk said. He did so because, as the Deputy Minister of National Defence explained, he could not fly into Polish airspace as it is forbidden. Therefore, a Polish F-16 joined the action.<\/p>\n
