“Since nightfall, operations have been underway in Kyiv and the Kyiv region to address the aftermath of the Russian attack. Multiple fires broke out in the city, with damage reported in seven districts. As usual, the Russians targeted ordinary residential buildings. Eighteen houses, a school, the Lithuanian embassy, and infrastructure facilities were damaged,” the president wrote on social media.<\/p>\n
Volodymyr Zelenskyy mentioned that nine fatalities are currently known. He also expressed condolences to the families and lovedows of those killed in the attack. He emphasized that dozens of people were injured and that medical assistance is being provided to all victims.<\/p>\n
Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko also addressed the situation. “A horrific night for Kyiv. The enemy struck the capital using ballistics. Building damage and fires were reported in five districts of the city. Currently, it is known that 9 people died. More than 30 people were injured, specifically four children. 17 of the injured are in hospitals. Doctors are providing them with all necessary assistance. Rescue services are still operating at the scene. (…) According to preliminary data, 4 enterprise buildings were partially destroyed, and other facilities were damaged. 5 ambulances burned down completely, 20 vehicles serving healthcare institutions in the capital were severely damaged,” he wrote on Telegram on Saturday at 8:32 AM, attaching a video showing the destruction.<\/p>\n

The president reported that from Friday night to Saturday, the Russians launched 35 missiles toward Ukraine, including 27 ballistic missiles, and 185 strike drones of various types. “Last night, only one ballistic missile was successfully shot down because we ran out of missiles for Patriot systems. Such a shortage of interceptor missiles to combat ballistic missiles only encourages Russia to carry out further attacks targeting human lives,” he stated.<\/p>\n
Zelenskyy added that it is very important “for partners to hear that these assets are needed not in warehouses for hypothetical scenarios, but here and now, to stop and halt the Russian war in Ukraine. Every package of ballistic missile interceptors saves the lives of our citizens. Every night they are missing brings more casualties.”<\/p>\n
“One of the missiles exploded right next to the Lithuanian embassy, damaging the building, but \u2013 fortunately \u2013 without harming our staff,” Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda stated on Saturday. He added that “Russian terror knows no borders, and Ukraine is defending not only its own citizens, but also the security of all of Europe.”<\/p>\n
The president assured that “Lithuania unswervingly supports President (Volodymyr) Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people, and calls on allies to intensify assistance by supplying more modern air defense systems, which will save human lives.” In his view, Ukraine should receive the funds necessary to protect its skies and citizens, as well as “our common freedom.”<\/p>\n
Earlier in the week, Zelenskyy met with President Donald Trump, and the talks concerned, among other things, the production of Patriot interceptor missiles in Ukraine. Ultimately, the United States did not agree to transfer the license.<\/p>\n
Russia has recently stepped up attacks on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, including gas stations, especially near the front lines. As Regina Kharchenko, acting mayor of Zaporizhzhia, mentioned, the city was hit by 54 airstrikes targeting gas stations within 24 days up to July 27. These strikes killed four people and injured 29 people. – This is deliberate terrorism targeting civilian infrastructure and the civilian population.
