Patients facing long waiting times and co-payments for National Health Fund sanatorium stays can utilize alternative pathways, including a faster option specifically for active workers funded by the Social Insurance Institution. <\/p>\n
Let us recall who can benefit from NFZ treatment and how much it costs. Any person covered by health insurance for whom contributions are paid can use a sanatorium. The right to this form of treatment also applies to children, even if their parents do not work and do not pay contributions. The basis for the trip is a referral issued by a doctor who assesses whether a stay in a sanatorium is medically justified.<\/p>\n
In the case of a stay financed by the NFZ, the patient does not cover the cost of the treatment itself, but must pay an extra charge for accommodation and board. Rates depend on the room standard and the billing season. The first, autumn-winter season, lasts from October to April. The second, spring-summer season, covers the period from May to September. A standard shift lasts 21 days, so the total cost of the stay is calculated by multiplying the daily rate by 21.<\/p>\n
For single rooms with a full sanitary facility, the rate is PLN 32.60 in the first season and PLN 40.90 in the second. A single room in a studio costs PLN 26.10 in the autumn-winter season and PLN 37.40 in the spring-summer season. Meanwhile, for a single room without a full sanitary facility, you have to pay PLN 24.90 in the first season and PLN 33.20 in the second.<\/p>\n
In double rooms with a full sanitary facility, the rate is PLN 19.50 in the first season and PLN 27.30 in the second. A double room in a studio costs PLN 16.30 from October to April and PLN 24.90 from May to September. For a double room without a full sanitary facility, the patient will pay PLN 14.20 in the first season and PLN 19.50 in the second.<\/p>\n
The lowest rates apply to multi-person rooms. A multi-person room with a full sanitary facility costs PLN 12.50 in the autumn-winter season and PLN 14.80 in the spring-summer season. In the studio system, it is PLN 11.90 and PLN 13.60 respectively. On the other hand, a multi-person room without a full sanitary facility costs PLN 10.60 in the first season and PLN 11.90 in the second.<\/p>\n
A full sanitary facility means a bathroom equipped with a washbasin, toilet, and bathtub or shower. The studio system means that two rooms share a common bathroom.<\/p>\n
You do not wait the same amount of time for a sanatorium trip across all of Poland. Data from the NFZ shows that the average waiting time for adult sanatorium spa treatment is currently 6 months. In individual voivodeships, it looks as follows:<\/p>\n
The waiting time for spa treatment under the NFZ can sometimes be shortened by using cancellations, which are slots vacated by patients who resigned from the trip. For this purpose, you should call your voivodeship NFZ branch and ask about the possibility of using cancellations. If we decide to go, we must be prepared to start the shift even within 14 days. However, this is not the only way to undertake treatment faster.<\/p>\n
There is another pathway through which you can get to a sanatorium without months of waiting. Importantly, in this case, the patient does not make an extra payment for accommodation. However, this solution does not apply to everyone eligible for spa treatment.<\/p>\n
An alternative to the trip financed by the NFZ is sanatorium rehabilitation paid for by ZUS. Working people who are at risk of losing their ability to work can use this opportunity. It is precisely this group that can count on a faster referral and full coverage of the costs of the stay.<\/p>\n
This form of rehabilitation is not available to pensioners or children. Unlike sanatorium treatment under the NFZ, here the patient does not bear accommodation costs. ZUS also reimburses expenses related to travel to the facility and back.<\/p>\n
The waiting time for a referral for rehabilitation is about 9 weeks, but depending on the treatment profile, this deadline may be shorter, although in some cases (e.g., in medical rehabilitation for voice organ disorders) it can be longer. This means that for some working insured persons, rehabilitation within ZUS may turn out to be a significantly faster path to starting treatment than a standard sanatorium trip financed by the NFZ.<\/p>\n
In the case of rehabilitation organized by ZUS, the cancellation system known from sanatorium trips under the NFZ does not function. This means that vacant spots are distributed internally, and patients do not use the mechanism of accelerating the trip based on waiting for a vacated date here.<\/p>\n
Going to a sanatorium under the NFZ still means quite a long wait and the necessity of an extra payment for accommodation. A faster and financially more advantageous path can be sanatorium rehabilitation financed by ZUS, but it is intended exclusively for working people at risk of losing their ability to work. For this group, it is a real chance for a shorter waiting time, no extra fees for the stay, and reimbursement of travel costs.<\/p>\n
