Thousands of Polish seniors may gain the right to support ranging from PLN 791.40 to PLN 4,352.70 gross per month. Current regulations lower the thresholds entitling individuals to the supporting benefit to 70 points and open access to cash for all seniors with functional limitations\u2014completely without an income threshold and regardless of their previous pension amount.<\/p>\n
Accessibility barriers to the care allowance previously limited beneficiaries exclusively to those most in need of care. Currently, the support system opens up to a much broader group of seniors whose age and health status have caused moderate or significant difficulties in daily functioning. For a huge portion of seniors, reaching the 70-point threshold in the functional assessment is entirely realistic, translating into the possibility of being granted the supporting benefit and, consequently, monthly transfers regardless of earnings or pension height.<\/p>\n
The supporting benefit differs from other allowances in Poland. Its most important advantages include eligibility without income criteria and direct financial relief for daily functional difficulties.<\/p>\n
The amount of the supporting benefit depends on the level of need for assistance demonstrated during the functional assessment, meaning the points awarded to the applicant. Furthermore, the final support amount depends on the social pension, which amounts to PLN 1,978.49 gross from March 1, 2026. On this basis, six financial support thresholds are calculated.<\/p>\n
Seniors with the highest loss of independence (the 95\u2013100 points bracket) can receive PLN 4,352.70 gross monthly regardless of their pension, which yields over PLN 52,000 gross annually. Conversely, the lowest point threshold guarantees a steady supplement of nearly PLN 800 gross monthly.<\/p>\n
The supporting benefit is not granted automatically. Even holding a certificate of inability to independent existence or the highest degree of disability does not result in the automatic granting of the benefit. Every interested party must go through the required procedures.<\/p>\n
The first stage is directing the case to the Voivodeship Medical Disability Evaluation Board (WZON). This institution is responsible for conducting the assessment evaluating the applicant’s degree of independence. To submit an application to WZON regarding the supporting benefit, the senior must possess a valid certificate of disability degree, inability to independent existence, or an older certificate of classification into an invalid group. WZON assesses the ability to perform specific daily activities, such as independent eating, dressing, personal hygiene, moving around, shopping, or taking medication, and subsequently issues a decision specifying the score on a scale from 0 to 100.<\/p>\n
After obtaining the WZON decision with the required number of points, the documentation must be submitted to the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS). The latter issues a decision on granting the right to the supporting benefit and establishes the payment schedule.<\/p>\n
The Social Insurance Institution accepts documents exclusively in digital form. Applicants have three channels to choose from for submitting their electronic paperwork.<\/p>\n
The introduction of the 70-point threshold from 2026 makes the supporting benefit more accessible to seniors in Poland. Older individuals and their legal guardians should not delay taking formal steps.
