Ukrainian Ambassador to Poland Vasyl Bodnar and Ambassador to the Czech Republic Vasyl Zvarych are candidates for deputy foreign ministers of Ukraine, according to the Ukrainian agency Interfax. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reportedly announced this on Monday, August 3, during a meeting with the heads of Ukrainian diplomatic missions.<\/p>\n
According to PAP correspondent in Kyiv Jaros\u0142aw Junko, the candidates being considered to succeed Bodnar are Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Iryna Vereshchuk and current Deputy Foreign Minister Oleksandr Mishchenko.<\/p>\n
Bodnar previously served as Ukraine’s deputy foreign minister from 2017 to 2021. From 2021 to 2024, he served as Ukraine’s ambassador to Turkey, and in 2024 he assumed the position of ambassador to Poland. Wasyl Zvarych, who is also being discussed in the context of the Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Ministry position, was delegated to Warsaw before taking up his post in the Czech Republic.<\/p>\n
These maneuvers are part of a larger overhaul in the Ukrainian government. On Monday, August 3, Rustem Umerov was appointed head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine. Meanwhile, Ihor Klymenko, who served as Minister of Internal Affairs for several years, was offered the position of Secretary of the NSDC by Zelenskyy.<\/p>\n
Previously, authorities considered Klymenko as a candidate for defense minister after former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov was dismissed as part of the government overhaul.
