On Tuesday, August 4, tram track replacement work in central Warsaw was halted after workers discovered a large unexploded artillery shell, prompting immediate road closures and public transport detours. <\/p>\n
On Tuesday, August 4, during work to replace tram tracks in Aleja \u201eSolidarno\u015bci\u201d in Warsaw, an unexploded ordnance was found. For safety reasons, the street was closed in both directions between Plac Bankowy and Aleja Jana Paw\u0142a II, and public transport was rerouted.<\/p>\n
The discovery was made around 8 a.m. near building number 101, in the area of the intersection with Orla Street. Workers carrying out the track construction stumbled upon an object resembling unexploded ordnance and notified the authorities.<\/p>\n
Police officers were dispatched to the scene and confirmed the report. Police pyrotechnicians preliminarily classified the found object as an artillery shell, which is approximately 60 to 70 centimeters long and about 30 centimeters in diameter.<\/p>\n
Military sappers were notified of the discovery and are scheduled to arrive at the scene within the next few hours. Until they carry out their operations, the area is secured by the police.<\/p>\n
Aleja \u201eSolidarno\u015bci\u201d remains closed to traffic between Plac Bankowy and Aleja Jana Paw\u0142a II in both directions, with public transport vehicles diverted to alternative routes.<\/p>\n
At this stage, it remains unknown whether the evacuation of residents and people in nearby buildings will be necessary during the removal and transport of the ordnance. A decision regarding this matter will be made after military sappers conduct a thorough inspection of the shell.<\/p>\n
