Poland\u2019s Chief Pharmaceutical Inspectorate has issued an immediate nationwide ban on marketing the cholesterol-lowering drug Atorvastatin Medical Valley due to unresolved quality defects. <\/p>\n
Thousands of patients take this cholesterol medication every day. Now, the Chief Pharmaceutical Inspectorate has issued a decision banning its marketing across Poland due to detected irregularities that raised serious doubts regarding the quality of the preparation.<\/p>\n
This is one of the broadest decisions issued by the Inspectorate regarding this product. The authority concluded that despite corrective actions, the manufacturer failed to eliminate the problem in a way that would limit the ban only to selected batches.<\/p>\n
The Inspectorate banned the sale of Atorvastatin Medical Valley 40 mg. What does the decision mean?<\/p>\n
The Chief Pharmaceutical Inspectorate issued decision No. 10\/ZW\/2026, prohibiting the marketing nationwide of the medicinal product Atorvastatin Medical Valley (Atorvastatinum), 40 mg, film-coated tablets, in a 30-tablet package. This is a medicine used to lower high cholesterol levels, reduce triglyceride concentrations in the blood, and in the prevention of heart and blood vessel diseases.<\/p>\n
The ban covers all batches of the drug, and the decision was given immediate enforceability. The product holds marketing authorization No. 27496, and the responsible entity is the Swedish company Medical Valley Invest AB. Granting immediate enforceability means the decision applies right away, regardless of any potential further procedural steps.<\/p>\n
Why did the Inspectorate ban the sale of the cholesterol drug? The reason was quality defects.<\/p>\n
The proceedings began after the National Medicines Institute forwarded the results of quality tests. The testing revealed non-compliance with requirements regarding the appearance parameter. According to the manufacturer, new batches met quality requirements, and the identified damages were cosmetic in nature. However, the analysis of the presented materials did not convince the authority. The Inspectorate noted that damaged tablets were still found even after the changes, and therefore concluded that the problem had not been completely eliminated. Consequently, the ban covered the entire product rather than just individual batches.<\/p>\n

The decision concerns a ban on marketing, which prevents subsequent batches of this product from appearing on the market. In the justification, the Inspectorate recalls that earlier batches covered by the decision to suspend marketing have already expired, so the current decision is intended to prevent the introduction of further batches against which quality objections still exist. Patients undergoing atorvastatin treatment should not discontinue therapy on their own. In case of doubts regarding the preparation being taken, they should contact their attending physician or pharmacist, who can propose an appropriate equivalent containing the same active substance.<\/p>\n
