An extraordinary meeting of the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council was convened regarding the migration situation in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. Poland was represented during the videoconference by Deputy Minister of Interior and Administration Maciej Duszczyk.<\/p>\n
Ministers supported the five-point plan presented by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The Polish side presented its own experiences regarding border protection in the context of the instrumentalization and weaponization of migration, as well as adapting laws to migration challenges. This primarily involves strong state border security, as well as measures such as the temporary and territorial suspension of the right to submit asylum applications after crossing the Polish-Belarusian border.<\/p>\n
Poland welcomes the fact that an increasing number of member states share its viewpoint on migration, emphasizing that migration must be subject to full control so it cannot be used against EU values.<\/p>\n
Ceuta is a Spanish enclave located on the northern coast of Africa and constitutes one of the external borders of the European Union, serving for years as a primary route for illegal border crossings by migrants from Morocco.<\/p>\n
Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska stressed at a post-meeting press conference that the crisis in no way disrupted the functioning of the Schengen area.
