Marking its 20th anniversary, the Capital Police Headquarters Transport Division oversees nearly 300 personnel managing high-risk prisoner transfers, court security, and international extraditions. <\/p>\n
The current Transport Division of the Capital Police Headquarters was established on August 1, 2006. Its history, however, traces back to earlier structures of the capital police, including the Transport and Protection Battalion, the City Security Division, and the Transport and Protection Division.<\/p>\n
Over two decades, the unit’s structure has been modified twice. In 2007, the Judicial Police Section from the Warsaw IV District Police Command was incorporated, and in subsequent years, the Police Juvenile Shelter also became part of the division.<\/p>\n
The primary task of the officers is organizing and conducting transports and forced escorts. Police officers transport temporarily arrested, convicted, and detained persons to courts, prosecutor offices, prisons, detention centers, medical facilities, and other institutions.<\/p>\n
Minors are also escorted to juvenile shelters, correctional facilities, and youth educational centers. Furthermore, officers execute deportations of foreigners whom courts have ordered to be placed in guarded centers.<\/p>\n
One of the most demanding areas of the unit’s activity is international transport. Specially trained police officers transport deprived individuals on commercial and charter aircraft, cooperating with the National Police Headquarters and foreign services.<\/p>\n
While flights to Great Britain and the Netherlands are most frequent, capital police officers have also conducted transports to Japan, Australia, Venezuela, Ecuador, and Panama. Officers are similarly responsible for transporting individuals detained under European Arrest Warrants and international agreements.<\/p>\n
The division includes two Judicial Police Sections, handling prisoner transfers from Warsaw detention centers on Bia\u0142o\u0142\u0119ka, S\u0142u\u017cewec, and Grochow to legal and medical facilities, as well as securing judicial buildings and protecting magistrates and participants.<\/p>\n
High-profile trials, high-risk proceedings, and sessions involving protected persons require special preparation. In the first half of 2026, officers secured 241 court hearings, conducted 803 pyrotechnic inspections, arrested 17 individuals, made 80 interventions, and assisted over 5,000 times during courtroom entries.<\/p>\n
During the first six months of 2026, the Transport Division transported over 6,500 people, following nearly 15,000 individuals managed throughout the entire year of 2025.<\/p>\n
The division utilizes 43 specialized vehicles for transporting detained persons, including fifteen equipped with additional isolation cells and four featuring video surveillance systems. Officers also use 13 patrol cars and two vehicles adapted for transporting service dogs.<\/p>\n
An unestablished Mine-Pyrotechnic Recognition Group operates within the unit, comprising 34 police officers, including four dog handlers trained in explosives detection. They check court buildings and courtrooms before high-risk trials and secure state visits, mass events, and public gatherings.<\/p>\n
The Transport Division reinforces the protection of transports involving money, museum pieces, and items of special significance. It collaborates with the National Bank of Poland, the Polish Security Printing Works, museums, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, and state archives.<\/p>\n
The unit also houses a Police Juvenile Shelter for minors requiring care and supervision. Officers ensure their safety, execute court orders, and collaborate with police units, family courts, and educational facilities during intake, transfer, and release procedures.<\/p>\n
The Transport Division is preparing to implement new technological solutions, including a pilot AI CCTV intelligent image analysis system in the detention rooms of the Capital Police Headquarters. The system will automatically detect potentially dangerous behaviors, such as acts of aggression and fights.<\/p>\n
To celebrate the unit’s 20th anniversary, the Capital Police Headquarters produced a new episode of the “Sto\u0142eczni” film series.
