Information about the July 31 incident was reported by the local Ukrainian portal Suspilne Lutsk. Just before 11:00 PM, a 19-year-old driver of an Audi A7 was traveling significantly above the speed limit along Sobornosti Avenue in Lutsk. Driving through a red light, he struck 14-year-old Oleksandr, a young footballer, on a pedestrian crossing.<\/p>\n
The teenager, who would have turned 15 on Tuesday, August 4, died at the scene. The impact was so severe that police found the 14-year-old’s body 150 meters away from the pedestrian crossing.<\/p>\n
According to Suspilne, the driver was sober. It is known that he is a resident of a village in the Kamin-Kashyrskyi region and earned money for the car by working in Poland. The suspect’s lawyer, Andriy Plebanovych, adds that his client received his driver’s license a month ago, at the beginning of July 2026. However, according to investigators, before passing his driving test, he had already been penalized by the police for driving without a license and operating an improperly registered vehicle. This was the reason why the court rejected the defense’s request for house arrest.<\/p>\n
Quoted by the Suspilne portal, the defense attorney emphasizes that the driver in no way wants to escape responsibility for his actions. He admits his guilt and regrets what he did, and the only thing the lawyer can do is facilitate the fastest possible reconciliation between the suspect and the victims’ family.<\/p>\n
On August 2, the 19-year-old was charged under Article 286, paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This pertains to the violation of traffic safety rules if the act causes serious bodily injury or the death of the victim.
