President’s Chief of Staff Zbigniew Bogucki criticized Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Wednesday over counter-signatures for newly appointed judicial assessors, declaring the prime minister’s signatures legally meaningless. <\/p>\n
At the end of July, President Karol Nawrocki handed acts of nomination to new judicial assessors. However, the National Council of the Judiciary determined that these acts required the prime minister’s counter-signature under regulations, forwarding them to the Chancellery of the Prime Minister for Donald Tusk’s signature.<\/p>\n

Tusk emphasized that legally appointing a group of over 200 assessors allows them to handle 10,000 to 11,000 cases monthly before fully becoming judges. He stated that his signature will accompany President Nawrocki’s on the documents received by each nominee, noting he received similar documents from all previous presidents without dispute.<\/p>\n
Head of the President’s Office Zbigniew Bogucki commented on X on Wednesday evening that Prime Minister Tusk’s signatures on assessor appointments already received from President Nawrocki are not counter-signatures and hold no legal significance, questioning who advises the prime minister.<\/p>\n
Bogucki added that even under customary counter-signatures for assessor appointments, the prime minister’s signature was placed on the president’s decree rather than individual appointment acts.<\/p>\n
Bogucki stated that forcing assessors to submit appointment acts for counter-signatures is an inadmissible form of pressure on the judiciary to enforce obedience to the executive branch, as well as an anti-democratic and unlawful interference with judicial independence.<\/p>\n
