According to the law, the retirement age in Poland is differentiated by age and is 60 years for women and 65 years for men. However, regulations are ceasing to reflect actual citizen behavior. As experts noted, Poles increasingly do not quit work upon acquiring the right to a benefit, remaining active on the labor market without introducing changes in the law. Interestingly, the number of working seniors has increased by over 50% over the last decade.<\/p>\n
According to the latest data at the end of last year, the occupational activity structure of seniors looked as follows.<\/p>\n
For comparison, a decade earlier, health insurance due to work covered 575.4 thousand retirees, and pension contributions were paid by 371.9 thousand. This means an increase of nearly 53% over 10 years.<\/p>\n
The average age of an economically active retiree in Poland is currently around 68 years. Why do they keep working? Among the main causes of this trend, both the desire to improve the home budget and the need to maintain social activity are indicated. However, experts point to potential risks of this solution in the longer term.<\/p>\n
An expert emphasizes that as long as a retiree is able to work, they can benefit from two sources of income, which clearly improves their material situation. Problems arise, however, when age or deteriorating health prevent further employment. Then the only source of livelihood remains the pension, which for many people may prove too low, says \u0141ukasz Koz\u0142owski from the Federation of Polish Entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n
Although statistics and demographic challenges prompt discussions on raising the retirement age, experts rule out changes in the near future.
