What is behind this massive shift in the decisions of Polish workers? The answer lies in the mathematics of the pension system. According to forecasts prepared by the Social Insurance Institution at the request of the “Fakt” daily, the profitability of working longer is gigantic. A simulation published by “Fakt” analyzed the case of a woman born in January 1966 and a man born in January 1961 who reached retirement age in January 2026, assuming they worked full years from age 25 while contributing from 100 percent of the average wage.<\/p>\n
Such a dynamic jump in the amount of the pension results from two key factors: continuing to pay contributions into the system and reducing the number of months of average further life expectancy by which ZUS divides the accumulated capital. Every additional year worked after reaching retirement age clearly raises the payout rate.
