On Thursday, August 6, there were over 1,300 fire department interventions nationwide. Four people were injured due to the difficult weather conditions. The highest number of interventions was recorded in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship at 312, followed by the Masovian Voivodeship with approximately 290 interventions. The Lublin and \u0141\u00f3d\u017a voivodeships saw about 100 interventions each. The responses involved incidents characteristic of strong storm cells, including fallen trees, damaged roofs, and flooded homes. There were 106 interventions related to damaged roofs and as many as 700 concerning fallen trees.<\/p>\n
In the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, apart from strong winds, large hail also occurred. The largest hail fell in the town of Lubomino, reaching a diameter of up to 5-8 cm, as a strong supercell storm moved through the area.<\/p>\n
Once again during past storms, a tree fell onto a car. The incident took place in the town of Polany, where travelers had stopped by the road due to the downpour. We remind everyone that during severe storms, it is best to stop the vehicle in an area without trees or at gas stations whenever possible, and to park cars away from trees.<\/p>\n
As a result of strong winds, a sailboat capsized on Lake Seksty. All people were rescued, and one person was taken to the hospital. Seeing an approaching storm, boaters must immediately and definitively dock at the shore. Lightning strikes also pose a hazard on the lake, especially when dealing with saline seawater.<\/p>\n
What caused such severe storms? The strongest storms typically result from warm air masses being displaced by an atmospheric front or from favorable conditions within a wind convergence line, where winds meet from two directions. In this case, a wavy atmospheric front swept across Poland.<\/p>\n
This means the front was partially cold, pushing out the air mass, and partially warm, causing a further influx of tropical air mass. This setup created ideal conditions for the development of dangerous, violent storm phenomena.<\/p>\n
After the storms and the front pass, it will become cooler. On Saturday, thermometers across the country will reach a maximum of 23-26 degrees Celsius. It will get slightly warmer on Sunday as heatwaves return, with mercury levels jumping up to 30-33 degrees.
