Through his Truth Social platform, Donald Trump stated that a desperately needed secure ballroom and military complex with a large drone port on the roof is being built at the presidential residence. He called the court ruling\u2014issued at a time when a significant portion of the work has allegedly already been completed and paid for\u2014a national embarrassment, viewing the construction block as top-tier national security threat.<\/p>\n
Recall that last year, to make room for the aforementioned ballroom, Trump demolished the historic East Wing of the White House, which had served for decades as the official office of American first ladies and their staff. The president assured that he managed to raise 400 million dollars for construction from the pockets of private donors and his personal fortune.<\/p>\n
The case went to court following a lawsuit filed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The preservation association demanded an urgent halt to the bulldozers, arguing that the project started bypassing procedures, without appropriate approvals and authorization from the Capitol.<\/p>\n
Although a lower court judge ordered the suspension of above-ground expansion as early as spring, the decision was suspended until the case was reviewed by the appeals court.<\/p>\n
In Friday’s ruling, the judges emphasized that Congress exercises constitutional control over the financing of any construction work on the White House grounds. Despite the ban on erecting the above-ground part of the complex, the verdict leaves a loophole for the administration: work on the underground section of the facility can continue under the pretext of ensuring the head of state’s safety. According to US media reports, a modernized bunker equipped with state-of-the-art bomb shelters and military and medical facilities is being built deep beneath the White House lawns.<\/p>\n
Trump had previously announced that in the event of an unfavorable ruling in the appeals court, he would take the case directly to the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n
