Following a Friday meeting of the Ukrainian interministerial commission, Kyiv has authorized new exhumations of Polish victims in Huta Pieniacka and Ug\u0142y, alongside the conclusion of a search operation in Ostr\u00f3wki. <\/p>\n
Decisions regarding the approvals were made at a meeting of the Ukrainian State Interministerial Commission for Commemorating Participants of the Antiterrorist Operation, Victims of War, and Political Repressions, which took place on Friday, August 7.<\/p>\n
Ukraine has issued further approvals for the exhumations of Polish victims.<\/p>\n
“As part of the implementation of arrangements reached by the Ukrainian-Polish Working Group on National Remembrance, the commission agreed to carry out exhumation research in the area of the former village of Huta Pieniacka (…),” the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory (UINP) announced on Facebook on Saturday.<\/p>\n
“Furthermore, as part of efforts to preserve places of memory of the Polish nation in Ukraine, it was agreed to carry out exhumation research on the burial sites of persons who died or went missing during World War II in the area of the village of Ug\u0142y in the Sarny municipal hromada, in the Sarny district of the Rivne Oblast,” the statement communicated.<\/p>\n
“In a separate decision, the commission agreed to collect genetic material (DNA) samples from the remains buried between 1992 and 2015 in the cemetery of the former village of Ostr\u00f3wki (…),” the UINP stated.<\/p>\n

Exhumations of victims murdered by Ukrainian nationalists in August 1943 took place in the former localities of Ostr\u00f3wki and Wola Ostrowiecka in Volhynia, Ukraine, between July 14 and August 7.<\/p>\n
As a result of the work, the remains of 55 people\u2014including 26 children\u2014were collected, and over 300 personal items were found and secured, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage reported on Friday, August 7.<\/p>\n
