Residents of Ciechan\u00f3w County face an unusual threat. In the vicinity of the village of Osiek-W\u00f3lka, a retired veterinarian observed a huge cat resembling a puma through thermal imaging binoculars. Foresters found animal tracks nearby, and the Municipal and County Crisis Management Teams are urgently appealing for people not to enter the forests and to take special care of children.<\/p>\n
In the area of the village of Osiek-W\u00f3lka in Ciechan\u00f3w County, a hunter observed a large cat that may be a puma. The Municipal Crisis Management Team in Go\u0142ymin-O\u015brodek appealed to residents of surrounding towns to exercise caution and avoid entering the forests.<\/p>\n
Forester Tomasz Dr\u00f3\u017cd\u017c from the Ciechan\u00f3w Forest District reported that he received the information from hunters. One of them, a retired veterinarian and WULS employee, observed the large cat through thermal binoculars. He stated that the animal had a long, curled tail like a puma, and was the size of a “przelatek” which is a wild boar in its second year of life according to PAP.<\/p>\n
The forester sent employees to the site to search for tracks. Near a puddle, because it was freshly after rain, they indeed found a track\u2014the paw print of a large cat, possibly a puma. Whether it truly is one will be determined if we manage to see, record, or capture it, he noted.<\/p>\n
He emphasized that if the animal is located, no one will shoot at it, but it will be subdued with a tranquilizer. Dr\u00f3\u017cd\u017c informed the county crisis management center and the village mayor about the wild cat, who warned residents primarily of the villages Osiek-W\u00f3lka, Osiek-Aleksandrowo, Osiek G\u00f3rny, and Stare Garnowo.<\/p>\n
Local authorities appealed for residents to exercise extreme caution and not to enter forests and wooded areas in these vicinities. They also asked to pay special attention to children.<\/p>\n
A statement on this matter was also issued by the County Crisis Management Center in Ciechan\u00f3w. Its authors noted that upon noticing the animal, one should not approach it, attempt to capture it independently, or chase it away.<\/p>\n
If the animal is spotted or poses a direct danger, the services must be immediately notified by calling the emergency number 112.
