Warsaw prosecutors have filed an indictment against retired Col. Krzysztof G. for mishandling classified information, including sensitive NATO data sent via private email during the email leak scandal. <\/p>\n
An indictment against retired Col. Krzysztof G. has been sent to the court. The former military official is charged with the improper processing of classified information in connection with the ongoing email leak scandal, the spokesperson for the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office announced on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Prosecutor Piotr A. Skiba stated that the indictment against Krzysztof G. was forwarded to the court on August 10. The officer is accused of failing to fulfill his duty to comply with regulations on the protection of classified information while serving as a public official in active military service between March 2008 and January 2022.<\/p>\n
According to the prosecution, G. processed classified information with “RESTRICTED,” “CONFIDENTIAL,” “SECRET,” and “TOP SECRET” classifications without holding a teleinformation security accreditation. He did this by creating, improperly marking, and transmitting the materials using a private email account to the private email account of the then-Head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, Micha\u0142 Dworczyk.<\/p>\n
The prosecutor’s office stated that this conduct created a real risk of unauthorized disclosure, resulting in mishandled classified data and the direct exposure of state secrets in the public internet space. Furthermore, G. stored hundreds of graphical files and electronic documents on unaccredited computers and flash drives at his home and workplace.<\/p>\n
During his interrogation as a suspect, G. did not plead guilty to the charged offense and provided explanations that contradicted the gathered evidence, including opinions from the Military Counterintelligence Service (SKW). The offense carries a penalty of up to 3 years of imprisonment.<\/p>\n
The investigation was conducted by the Internal Security Agency in Warsaw under the supervision of the 8th Military Division of the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office. The case stems from a notification filed in October 2022 by then-MP and current Deputy Minister of National Defense Cezary Tomczyk regarding the transmission of classified NATO data on Polish tank ammunition reserves through an unsecured email box.<\/p>\n
Investigators established that Col. Krzysztof G. sent an unencrypted email containing classified information to Dworczyk while working at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. The data subsequently leaked following a hack into Dworczyk’s mailbox and was published on the poufnarozmowa.pl portal. In November 2024, G. was formally charged with exceeding his powers and concealing documents.<\/p>\n
Before his employment at the Chancellery in 2018, Col. Krzysztof G. became an advisor to Minister of National Defense Antoni Macierewicz in 2015, participating in the creation of the Territorial Defense Forces. In 2016, he was transferred to the cadre reserve amid media reports citing anti-Ukrainian statements and expressions of support for Vladimir Putin.<\/p>\n
He later served as a military advisor in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister from 2018 until his dismissal in 2022.
