Tusk Only in Second Place

A recent poll reveals that 35 percent of respondents favor the foreign minister as the KO prime minister candidate, placing Donald Tusk in second place with 29 percent.

Poll Results on KO Prime Ministerial Candidates

The minister of foreign affairs was named by 35 percent of respondents. The current head of government, Donald Tusk, came in second with 29 percent.

Meanwhile, 16 percent of respondents believe Warsaw mayor and former Polish presidential candidate Rafał Trzaskowski should become the prime minister candidate. Five percent indicated Finance Minister Andrzej Domański, and four percent pointed to Minister-Coordinator of Special Services Tomasz Siemoniak. Eleven percent of respondents would choose someone from outside this list. The survey was conducted on August 7-8 among a sample of 1,022 adults.

Parliamentary Elections and Potential Scenarios

Last week, “Dziennik Gazeta Prawna” reported unofficially that Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense, and head of the Polish People’s Party (PSL) Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz could become the ruling coalition’s candidate for prime minister ahead of next year’s elections.

– A conversation took place in which Tusk said that if the polls do not budge by Easter 2027 and the risk of losing power is high, it will be necessary to make image changes. He told Kosiniak-Kamysz that he could become the candidate for prime minister in the spring. There is only one condition: a joint list of the Civic Coalition and PSL in the elections, a newspaper informant said.

For now, however, the People’s Party in official statements rules out a joint run with KO in the parliamentary elections.

Uncertain Situation of the October 15 Coalition

Regaining a majority in the Sejm in next year’s elections by the Civic Coalition and its allies is not certain at this moment, and the situation on the political scene is dynamic.

An IBRiS poll for Polsat News published last week shows that 27.5 percent of respondents currently intend to vote for KO, 16.9 percent for PiS, and 14.4 percent for Confederation. Committees that could also introduce deputies to the Sejm include the Confederation of the Polish Crown (9.4 percent), Rozwój Plus (7.8 percent), and New Left (7.6 percent). Below the electoral threshold were PSL (4 percent), Together Party (2.3 percent), and Poland 2050 (1.4 percent). Undecided voters accounted for 8.8 percent.

As calculated by political scientist Dr. Maciej Onasz from the University of Łódź, KO would thus win 163 mandates, PiS 102, Confederation 82, Confederation of the Polish Crown 49, Rozwój Plus 34, and New Left 30.

Editorial Staff

Edited by Jan Latała

A recent poll reveals that 35 percent of respondents favor the foreign minister as the KO prime minister candidate, placing Donald Tusk in second place with 29 percent.
