A 24-year-old high-ranking member of a criminal organization targeting the elderly through “grandparent scams” has been captured in Barcelona following a coordinated international operation led by Krakow police. <\/p>\n
Investigators from the Krakow Police Department identified the 24-year-old as a central figure in a nationwide criminal group operating via the “legend” method. Police reports indicate that the suspect held a high position, managing operations, issuing orders, and coordinating tasks for other group members across Poland.<\/p>\n
The suspect fled Poland in August of last year after a warrant was issued for his arrest. Despite residing in Hungary and other EU countries, he continued to coordinate the group’s fraudulent activities. An European Arrest Warrant was issued in October 2025.<\/p>\n
In June, Krakow investigators tracked the suspect to Barcelona. They alerted the Polish liaison officer in Spain, who facilitated a rapid response from local authorities. The 24-year-old was arrested the following day and is currently awaiting extradition.<\/p>\n
The suspect lived a lavish lifestyle, staying in exclusive hotels and driving expensive vehicles funded by proceeds from scams targeting the elderly. Victims, believing they were helping loved ones, often handed over their life savings.<\/p>\n
On June 16, police seized a Ferrari 458 worth over one million zlotys from a Krakow hotel parking garage, securing the vehicle against future penalties.
