A new survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology reveals that 67% of Ukrainians favor replacing the president post-war, while most remain firmly opposed to holding elections during active conflict. <\/p>\n
The Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) surveyed citizens on whether replacing central authorities is necessary for national recovery once the war concludes. Respondents could select the presidency, the government, or the Verkhovna Rada.<\/p>\n
Public support for replacing central authorities has surged. Three years ago, 73% of respondents favored such changes; today, that figure has climbed to 88%. Support for refreshing the Verkhovna Rada stands at 83%, up from 69%, while 74% now favor changes in the Cabinet of Ministers, compared to 47% three years ago.<\/p>\n
The most significant shift concerns the office of the president. Currently, 67% of respondents believe a change in leadership is needed post-war, a sharp increase from the 23% who held this view three years ago.<\/p>\n
Analysis of the data based on trust levels toward President Volodymyr Zelenskyy shows that 33% of those who “completely trust” the president still support a change in leadership. Among those who “somewhat trust” him, 68% favor a change. Nearly all respondents who express no trust in Zelenskyy support replacing him once the war is over.<\/p>\n
Despite the desire for future leadership changes, the majority of Ukrainians continue to oppose holding elections while the war is ongoing. KIIS executive director Anton Hrushetskyj emphasized that most citizens still trust Zelenskyy and reject calls for elections before the fighting stops.<\/p>\n
