The Uniformed Services Family Card, intended to provide discounts and privileges to service members, remains in legislative limbo. A dispute between the Ministry of the Interior and Administration (MSWiA) and the Ministry of National Defense (MON) has emerged regarding which groups should be included in the program.<\/p>\n
The Ministry of the Interior currently supports limiting the program to professional service members and their families. Conversely, the Ministry of National Defense proposes extending coverage to volunteer firefighters and their families, a move that could expand the beneficiary pool by approximately 800,000 people.<\/p>\n
In addition to the Family Card, discussions are ongoing regarding a reform of service allowance structures, which would impact all four services under the Ministry of the Interior. Initial estimates suggest that the first phase of this reform would require an additional 1.8 billion PLN annually.<\/p>\n
Deputy Minister Wies\u0142aw Szczepa\u0144ski acknowledged that securing this level of funding presents a significant challenge. Furthermore, the police union is advocating for a mandated minimum service allowance, similar to systems currently in place within the Border Guard, with an estimated annual cost of 369 million PLN.<\/p>\n
The proposed legislation aims to establish a national program offering discounts on rail travel\u2014specifically 37% for single tickets and 49% for seasonal passes\u2014as well as reduced passport fees. The program is designed to include soldiers, police officers, Border Guard personnel, and their families, as well as veterans and retirees.<\/p>\n
