Improper disposal of fats causes significant damage to sewage infrastructure, where cooling oil thickens and forms massive, pipe-blocking masses known as fatbergs. These blockages lead to costly household repairs and widespread municipal sewage failures.<\/p>\n
Properly collected oil is diverted from waste streams to be repurposed, most notably for the production of biofuels.
