Hungarian President Tamas Sulyok has signed a constitutional amendment imposing an eight-year term limit on prime ministers, effectively preventing Viktor Orban from ever returning to the office he held for 20 years.<\/p>\n

Sulyok has formally refused to resign, stating that his oath binds him to the entire Hungarian political nation, including both the majority and the minority. The president\u2019s current term is scheduled to last until March 2029.<\/p>\n
Removing the president requires a two-thirds majority in parliament, which the Tisza party possesses. However, any such move would ultimately be decided by the Constitutional Court, an institution whose composition was heavily influenced by the previous Fidesz administration.<\/p>\n
Prime Minister Magyar has signaled his intention to pursue further administrative changes, including potential reviews of high-ranking officials appointed during the Fidesz era, specifically the heads of the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court.<\/p>\n
