The Polish Sejm has voted to keep a Ministry of Culture bill alive, rejecting an initial motion to scrap proposed state-subsidized social security for lower-income artists and creators. <\/p>\n

Only 11 percent of artists are employed under standard labor contracts. The remaining majority operate through short-term commissions or project-based work, which often leaves them without adequate retirement or health insurance coverage.<\/p>\n
The legislation has sparked ideological divisions. Minister of Culture Marta Cienkowska defended the bill, arguing that the nation\u2019s cultural identity is essential to its existence.
