The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management has issued second-degree heat alerts across large swaths of Poland as temperatures are forecasted to climb significantly through the weekend, reaching up to 40\u00b0C.<\/p>\n
Shallow low-pressure systems are shaping the weather across parts of Europe, while Poland remains under the influence of an expansive high-pressure zone centered over the North Sea and the Alps. This pattern is driving a flow of very warm polar-maritime air from the west.<\/p>\n
On Thursday, June 25, temperatures will range from 24-25\u00b0C in the Suwa\u0142ki and Podhale regions to 34\u00b0C in the west, with coastal areas remaining cooler at 22-23\u00b0C. Nighttime lows are expected to settle between 14\u00b0C in mountainous areas and up to 20\u00b0C in parts of Lower Silesia and Mazovia.<\/p>\n
The IMGW has issued second-degree heat warnings effective from 12:00 PM on Thursday, June 25, until 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 27. The alerts cover the southern parts of West Pomeranian, Kuyavian-Pomeranian, and Masovian voivodeships, as well as the entirety of the Lubusz, Greater Poland, \u0141\u00f3d\u017a, Opole, \u015awi\u0119tokrzyskie, and Lublin voivodeships, and northern parts of Lower Silesian, Silesian, Lesser Poland, and Subcarpathian voivodeships.<\/p>\n
Forecasters warn that these alerts may be extended with higher severity levels, as temperatures exceeding 30\u00b0C are expected to persist until at least Monday.<\/p>\n
Friday will be sunny nationwide, with temperatures ranging from 30\u00b0C to 33\u00b0C, though the northeast and coastal regions will experience cooler conditions. The peak heat is forecast for Sunday, June 28, when thermometers in the west could hit 40\u00b0C, with most of the country remaining between 35\u00b0C and 39\u00b0C.<\/p>\n
Monday, June 29, will see continued extreme heat across central, eastern, and southern Poland, while temperatures in the west are expected to drop below 30\u00b0C.<\/p>\n
A low-pressure trough and atmospheric front moving over Poland on Sunday are expected to trigger violent weather, including thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, hail, and gusty winds. IMGW spokesperson Agnieszka Prasek noted that the arrival of cooler air from the Atlantic interacting with existing tropical air masses could even produce tornadoes.<\/p>\n
The forecast predicts storms will begin in western and northern Poland on Sunday, extending into the southern and southeastern regions by Monday.<\/p>\n
