The Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) has increased the income threshold for the supplementary benefit for seniors, allowing thousands more pensioners to qualify for up to 500 PLN in monthly support.<\/p>\n
The supplementary benefit is designed for individuals requiring assistance with daily functioning. The primary requirement is a certificate confirming an inability to live independently, meaning the senior needs long-term care for basic activities like shopping, hygiene, or meal preparation. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and reside in Poland; there is no upper age limit.<\/p>\n
As of March, the income threshold for the benefit is 2,687.67 PLN gross. This replaces the previous limit of 2,552.39 PLN. This 135 PLN increase allows seniors whose pensions previously slightly exceeded the limit to now qualify for ZUS payments.<\/p>\n
The full 500 PLN benefit is paid to those whose total public pension income does not exceed 2,187.67 PLN gross. For those earning between 2,187.67 PLN and 2,687.67 PLN gross, ZUS applies a reduction mechanism, subtracting the excess amount from the 500 PLN payment.<\/p>\n
ZUS calculates the threshold using almost all public benefits, including domestic and foreign pensions. Crucially, nursing supplements (dodatek piel\u0119gnacyjny) and nursing allowances (zasi\u0142ek piel\u0119gnacyjny) are excluded from this calculation, meaning they do not prevent a senior from receiving the additional benefit.<\/p>\n
Benefits are not automatic; interested individuals must submit an ESUN form to ZUS. Those without a valid incapacity certificate must attach a medical certificate (form OL-9) and supporting documentation. Documents can be submitted in person or via the PUE ZUS platform. Current recipients do not need to reapply, as ZUS automatically adjusted calculations for the new threshold.<\/p>\n
The benefit is exempt from personal income tax (PIT) and health insurance premiums. It is also protected from bailiff seizures. The 13th and 14th pensions are not counted toward the income limit. KRUS pensioners are also eligible under the same 2,687.67 PLN gross threshold criteria.<\/p>\n
